How can I use my points?

You can redeem rewards starting from just 25 points, or apply points as a discount at checkout beginning at 50 points. Points can cover up to 20% of your total bill, as long as the invoice is at least Cg. 50.

What is the minimum for using points as a discount?

You need a minimum of 50 points, and the total invoice must be at least Cg. 50 to use points toward a discount.

Do I earn points on the down payment for my eye exam?

Yes — even partial payments such as a Cg. 50 down payment count toward point collection.

Do I earn points on SVB, third-party, or insured purchases?

No. Only the amount you personally pay counts toward points. Costs covered by SVB, a third party, your employer, or your insurance company do not qualify.

How does the referral bonus work?

Refer a friend via the Kangaroo App. When your friend registers and makes a qualifying purchase of Cg. 75 or more, you both receive 10 bonus points automatically.

How long are my points valid?

Your point balance remains valid as long as you make at least one purchase every 30 months. Learn more on our Membership page.

Can I combine points with other promotions?

Points can only be combined with promotions when it is clearly stated. If a promotion does not mention points, assume they cannot be combined with that offer.

How much does an eye exam cost at Mi Optica?

Are Mi Optica eye exams accepted by SVB?

How do I book an eye exam appointment online?

Existing customers with an email address on file can book an appointment online. If you are new, please send us your email address and we will set up your account access. You can also call us directly at +5999-888 5858.

How long does it take for my glasses to be ready?

Standard single vision glasses are typically ready within one hour. Bifocal or multifocal prescription glasses are usually ready within 10 business days (approximately 4 processing days plus 6 shipping days).

How does SVB insurance work for glasses at Mi Optica?

To use SVB insurance at Mi Optica, you can either use our recognized eye exam or present a referral from your general practitioner. What does my insurance plan cover for eyewear?

What is the Worry Free Protection Plan?

For a fee of $10 plus 7.5% of your total purchase, the Worry Free Protection Plan provides 80% copay replacement coverage for damaged frames and/or lenses. The plan is valid for one year starting 31 days after the original pickup date.

Do you carry photochromic lenses that darken in the sun?

What does a contact lens exam and fitting involve?

During a contact lens fitting at Mi Optica, we measure the curve and diameter of your eyes to ensure an accurate and comfortable fit. First-time wearers receive training on inserting, removing, and caring for lenses. A follow-up visit confirms the lenses are working well for your vision needs. Why can’t I use my eye doctor’s prescription for contact lenses?

An eye doctor’s prescription gives the vision correction needed for each eye but does not include the curve and diameter measurements required for contact lenses. An improperly fitted lens can shift and cause irritation or corneal damage. A dedicated contact lens exam at Mi Optica ensures a safe, precise fit.

Do I need a prescription for colored contact lenses?

Yes — a valid contact lens prescription is required for all contact lenses, including cosmetic color lenses, even if you don’t need vision correction. This protects the health of your eyes. Schedule a fitting at Mi Optica by calling +5999-888 5858.

How much does a contact lens exam cost?

What contact lens brands does Mi Optica carry?

We stock Johnson & Johnson Oasys, CooperVision Encore, Alcon Air Optix, and our own house-brand monthly lenses in the most common base curves. Toric, RGP, multifocal, and sclera lenses are available on request with a 14-business-day lead time. We are also specialists in sclera lenses — ask your eye doctor for a referral.

Does SVB cover contact lenses?

SVB Seguro Basico or supplementary insurance covers contact lens costs only when your prescription exceeds +/- 4.00 diopters. Contact us at +5999-888 5858 to verify your specific coverage before your appointment.

Sunglasses & Vision Myths

Do more expensive sunglasses always offer better UV protection?

No — price does not determine UV protection. You can find inexpensive sunglasses that offer 100% UV protection. What premium sunglasses may offer is better lens quality, sharper images, and reduced glare. When in doubt, bring your sunglasses in to Mi Optica for a free UV test.

Does a darker lens tint mean more UV protection?

No — tint darkness has no relationship to UV protection. A clear lens with 100% UV protection is safer for your eyes than a dark lens without UV protection. Dark lenses without UV protection can actually be harmful by causing your pupils to dilate, exposing your eyes to more UV light.

Do polarized lenses protect against UV rays?

Polarized lenses improve image clarity and reduce glare but do not inherently provide UV protection — they are separate features. Most polarized lenses do include UV protection, but always verify this. Mi Optica can check your sunglasses for free.

Will sitting too close to the TV damage your eyes?

No — sitting close to a TV, computer, or screen cannot physically damage your eyes. However, it can cause eye fatigue and discomfort. If you need to sit very close to see clearly, you may already have a vision issue worth discussing with our optometrists.

Will wearing glasses weaken your eyes over time?

No — glasses are external optical aids that correct refractive errors. They do not change the structure of the eye or make it dependent on lenses. You may simply want to wear them more often because everything looks clearer.

How often should I have my eyes examined?

We recommend a standard eye exam every two years for most adults. More frequent exams may be needed if you have diabetes, glaucoma risk, or other eye health concerns. Early detection of conditions like glaucoma and cataracts is essential to protecting your long-term vision.
